With a total annual pool of $10,000, the grant can be awarded in full or partial amounts based on the merit of the application and program costs.

This grant is available to professionals who currently work with Heart Surgeon Group seeking to advance their skills in cardiac care through accredited programs such as conferences, workshops, and courses.

Through this initiative, Heart Surgeon Group emphasises its commitment to excellence in patient care by empowering our team to acquire new knowledge and skills, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and contributing to a culture of ongoing learning.

Grant Recipient

Kelsey Abercrombie

Kelsey Abercrombie, a Registered Nurse and First Surgical Assistant, was awarded the Heart Surgeon Group Education Grant to attend the 2024 APACVS Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. This event provided Kelsey with valuable insights into endoscopic vessel harvesting, featuring presentations by experienced speakers from across the United States. A key highlight for Kelsey was the hands-on Cardiac First Surgical Assistants Course, featuring endoscopic vessel harvesting techniques. This skill is essential as Health New Zealand prepares to introduce this method, and Kelsey’s participation will contribute to its successful implementation, enhancing care for our patients at Braemar Hospital.

"This conference has been a highly beneficial experience, directly enhancing my skill set and aligning closely with the goals of the Heart Surgeon Group in advancing cardiac surgical care. I am grateful for the Heart Surgeon Group’s support in enabling me to attend this meeting. The knowledge and experience gained will be instrumental in my ongoing development as a surgical assistant, ultimately benefiting both our team and the patients we serve." - Kelsey Abercrombie
